‘Cage Cart’ was born out of necessity—a hacked transport solution designed to move large objects more efficiently. The flatbed carts used in this work were gifted by a long-time acquaintance, a transport worker who had modified them for his own needs. The wheels were intentionally made lower and smaller to allow for smoother entry into elevators, an adaptation that reflects the ingenuity of labor-driven design—modifying only what is necessary to make the tool work better in real-life conditions.
This hands-on approach sparked a personal question: What would a transport tool look like if designed purely for my own needs? ‘Cage Cart’ takes the traditional flatbed cart and transforms it into a three-dimensional cage-like structure, expanding its capacity to carry more. This is not just a functional upgrade but a rethinking of how objects evolve to fit the people who use them.
Wrapped in plastic, a common industrial practice for securing goods, ‘Cage Cart’ highlights the balance between improvisation and necessity. More than just a transport tool, it challenges the idea that design needs to be complex—true practicality comes from responding honestly to real needs.
