Widely produced and endlessly replicated, the Mono Block stool exists in countless variations across different countries, each shaped by local manufacturing, lifestyles, and cultural meaning. Its origins are difficult to trace, as it has been copied, adapted, and standardized over time, ultimately becoming a ubiquitous, everyday object.
This project embraces its global adaptability while staying rooted in local identity. Using the Red A Mono Block, a Hong Kong-made version deeply familiar to locals, Singular Stack plays with the idea of abundance and efficiency—compressing multiple stools into one. By subverting their intended function, the work highlights the paradox of abundance—where having more makes it easier to use less efficiently. As an open-ended project, it can expand to different regions, reflecting the unique material culture and variations of this universal design.
