Info
In cooperation with Hong Kong’s Around Sound Festival 2015, Karin Weber Gallery hosts artist Rie Nakajima on Friday, 20 November. The artist works with installations and performances that produce sound, and her creations are most often composed in direct response to unique architectural spaces using a combination of kinetic devices and found objects.
Nakajima has exhibited and performed internationally and has collaborated on an ongoing work entitled ‘Sculpture’ with David Toop since 2013. The artist has also collaborated with Keiko Yamamoto on a music project, ‘O YAMA O,’ which explores music without a genre. She frequently collaborates with David Cunningham, Miki Yui, Pierre Berthet, and Guy De Bièvre on an array of works which blur the lines between art and music. The artist was born in Yokohama and is currently based in London.

About Around Sound Art Festival 2015 Examining the contemporary phenomena of sound art, the fifth edition of the Around Sound Art Festival seeks to uncover the multi-layered range of perspectives by showcasing the artistic process behind concepts dealing with sound. The exhibitions bring together local and international artists, each with a very distinct set of language, tools and techniques used in their artistic medium. Exhibitions, performances, workshops and talks, will give audiences the opportunity to break down assumptions that might have defined of sound art. This year, the festival is curated by Helen Homan Wu (US/HK) and Aki Onda (JP/US). The curators explore how a new generation of sound and visual artists use sound as an artistic medium or conceptual art form. Artists Feng Hao (PRC), Chelpa Ferro (Brazil), Phoebe Hui (HK), Eli Keszler (US), Jacob Kirkegaard (Denmark/Germany), Rie Nakajima (JP/UK) and Sergei Tcherepnin (US) are invited to exhibit their works at Osage Gallery and Karin Weber Gallery. Talks and performances will be presented at the School of Creative Media, City University of Hong Kong, and Sonic Anchor, Contemporary Musiking Hong Kong (CMHK). |
